Basic Implant Dentistry
This course will provide beginners to intermediate dental implant dentists with ample theory and hands-on experience to begin simple implant treatment in the private practice setting.
- Day 1 – The introductory portion of the course emphasizes dental implant anatomy, cone beam CT scan interpretation, CT generated surgical guides, bench top hands-on and education by case presentation. You will not be bored!
- Day 2 – Dental Implant practice building, bench top hands-on, education by case presentation and planning for your implant surgery for the following Saturday.
- Day 3 – Live surgery day. Each participant will treat a surgical patient under the direct supervision of Dr. McFadden.
- Day 4 – Introduction to bone grafting and bone manipulation, review of surgical outcomes, recap of course, question and answer session and graduation.
Course goals:
- Initial ascent on participant’s dental implant learning curve
- Accurate diagnosis of dental implant patients, sites and prognoses
- Appropriate treatment planning of dental implant patients
- Participants should be comfortable placing implants in posterior implant sites (with adequate bone) and for fully edentulous patients
- Know when to refer dental implant patients

Intermediate Implant Dentistry
This course will extend the participants knowledge and expertise in implant dentistry. This course builds on the Basic Implant Dentistry course.
- Day 1 – Review of dental implant anatomy, diagnosis of bone defects, patient selection, education by case presentation and bench top hands-on.
- Day 2 – Surgical Day. Participants will observe and provide in live surgical procedures. Between participant’s patients and the Dental Implant Center patients all types of bone manipulation and grafting procedures may be demonstrated. If specific procedures cannot be obtained for the course, participants will have the opportunity to refer and observe, perform those procedures on their patients under the direct supervision of Dr. McFadden or return for observation of procedure during Dr. McFadden’s clinical practice.
- Day 3 – Introduction to advanced implant surgical and prosthetic procedures, recap of course, question and answer session, graduation.

Private Surgical and Prosthetic Implant Course
This private course is designed for a 1:1 or 2:1 mentoring relationship. Participant(s) will spend 3 days with Dr. McFadden learning and practicing the art of implant dentistry. The course will be structured; however participants(s) will guide the direction and speed of learning based on their past experiences. Participant(s) will have access to Dr. McFadden for six months after the course for case-by-case consultations. Between academic-style presentations, case presentations, bench top hands-on, live surgery and ongoing consulting opportunities, the participant(s) should have adequate knowledge, competency and confidence to start or significantly enhance the amount of surgical and prosthetic implant dentistry in their private practice.

Post-course
Former Basic Course, Intermediate Course and Private Course graduates can schedule time (usually Fridays) to bring their patient to the Dental Implant Center to perform procedures under the direct supervision of Dr. McFadden.

- Accurate diagnosis of dental implant patients, sites and prognoses
- Appropriate treatment planning of dental implant patients
- Become familiar with the feel and operation of the implant hand piece in various types of bone, understand the drilling, measuring and x-ray steps involved, understand equipment settings and use, and gain an understanding of how/when to make various judgments
- Achieve the confidence to provide simple to intermediate dental implant treatment
- Know when to refer dental implant patients
